Happy Lovings Day Story – Interracial Marriage Is Legal

June 12th 1967.

One night, on July 11, 1958, cops broke into Mildred & Richard Loving’s bedroom & they were arrested for being married. Richard spent 1 night in jail while his wife spent several more. They were both sentenced to 1 year in prison, but was suspended under the condition that they leave the state of Virginia (their home state) & not return together or at the same time for 25 years. They moved to Washington & had 3 children.

In 1963, Mildred became fed up with being ostracized from her home & decided to take matters into her own hands & took her case to the US Supreme Court. Her & her husband fought until the ban on interracial marriage was lifted on June 12, 1967. The rest of the states followed suit on making interracial marriage legal. Alabama was the last one to legalize interracial marriage in 2000.

Even though that case was won, to this day, some couples still have to go against their own families to even get married because of race. If it weren’t for the Lovings, we probably wouldn’t see the many mixedrace couples we see today. We all have the right to marry whoever we want, no matter their skin color or cultural background. Stand up for your rights.

June 12 1967, just 53 years ago today, Richard and Mildred lovings marriage over turned history. They were arrested and sent to jail for being married because of their race. After getting out they fraught for their civil rights, their case was heard before the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1967, The Supreme Court decided unanimously in their favor. Richard later said “For the first time, I could put my arm around Mildred and publicly call her my wife.”

On this day, 50 years ago, this couple made history. Love won. They were arrested in the middle of the night because the state of Virginia did not recognize a marriage between people of mixed “race” (we are all the human race!) Today is a day to remember the hardships they faced and those that many couples did, and still do.

Sometimes it can be the smallest freedoms we take for granted… freedoms like love  On this day in history, it’s amazing to think, not many decades ago, it became legally acceptable to love and marry someone who was a different “color”. The Loving’s unanimous Supreme Court win open the doors for marriages, like my own, to happen.

Happy Lovings Day to all of the racially diverse couple I am blessed to have as family, friends, community and colleagues. Here’s to hoping you may one day walk arm and arm together in a truly post racial world.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Interracial Relationships & Marriages

We all love browsing , most probably for fun but have you ever tried an Interracial Dating Sites and acquire a real partner of your dreams? Well, you may think it’s a bluff but these sites have actually resulted to marriages. They have been created to encourage people from different parts of the world to date and provide adequate knowledge about interracial relationships. This has been of importance through adequate awareness of benefits, advantages and does also tell you the disadvantages that come along with this type of Relationship.

Some people believe that love does not choose skin color while others do not understand why someone would end up picking someone who is from an entirely different world. Parents, for instance, would have a negative attitude if their son or daughter falls in love with someone from a different race.

Why then would someone believe that if they marry someone who is culturally different from them, it will bring a good amount satisfaction? This article highlights the various advantages and disadvantages that come with interracial marriages:

What are some of the advantages?

1. Every culture is different and has its uniqueness. Therefore, a couple would take some time to learn from each other’s culture. For example, understanding ethics and moral standards of each other’s culture would be appropriate. Learn their language, their religion, their music, their festivals, their cooking and everything else that is different from your culture.

2. Family and friends might have a strong negative opinion about a particular race. Well, when people from different races fall in love and make the decision to stick together no matter what, they end up helping each other break the negative stereotypes that they would have accumulated from their friends and relatives.

3. Children born in interracial families tend to be very open. They often stick together. In fact, children tend to adapt to the different cultures presented to them quickly.

Disadvantages of interracial marriages

1. Children struggle with knowing their identity. The child would have a difficult time choosing which culture he is to adopt or which culture they belong to. A child may end up feeling unaccepted by both races.

2. If you are going to do something the society around you is not accustomed to, be ready to face some judgment. Interracial couples tend to face an abnormal attention. For instance, most of them complain that most people stare at them while they are together in a public place. Most times this may make the couple extremely uncomfortable.

However, this might not be the worst form of segregation. If your family and friends, the people you consider closest to you, have an issue with who you married, about their culture, then you might be in big trouble. They may end up cutting down any form of help or even be cruel to your partner.

Final Thoughts

Anyone who chooses to get a spouse from a different race should put in mind that there will be external pressure from the people around them. So, work at committing yourself to supporting each other(as a couple) through this difficult times. If your parents show a negative attitude towards your partner, do not join hands with them. Stick by your spouse, show some form of support to help him or her go through the situation.

a significant conclusion can be determined that marriage is a matter of choice and everyone should choose who they want to marry no matter their origin and race. One should also understand that every relationships has benefits , advantages and disadvantages.

We (Ian and Ricki Smith’s) Love Seeing Interracial Relationships!!

So we ( Ian and Ricki ) met on tinder we started talking about random stuff. I remember everything we talked about. But the first thing we started talking about was vegan chili. He was making that night we started talking. We talked until he had to go to sleep. He had work the next morning. He wanted to meet up with me. So I told hi. I was babysitting that day, so he came to the house and he bought chick fila. The first time I saw him i darted jumping up and down. He was sooo good looking! Lol so we talked and everything and it went from there.

Everyday he would pick me up from my house. Our first date was Olive Garden. 😄 It was sooo fun! He told me he fell in love with me whenever we were on the beach. He said he knew then that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I started crying. I told him I knew I loved I loved him 2 dates after the beach date.

When we were at his house watching movies. Lol. So one night we was walking and talking kids and marriage. He started talking about our future and stuff. I was looking around to make sure novene was trying to harm us. Whenever I turned around he was on his knee and he asked me. I started screaming so loud! I started jumping up and down. And I hit him on his mouth by accident.

We Met in Atlanta 5 years ago

Nick and I met in Atlanta 5 years ago.we were always meant to be together. We got engaged last week.

We met several years ago as severs The time wasn’t right, but seeds were planted. Life sent us in different directions, we matured and followed our own career paths and life offered us a second chance. We went from being acquaintances to falling in love. From long distance to living together. We sought Christ and conquered obstacles. We made a life plan together and began to put it into action. Blessings poured out so we are engaged now. In a new tax bracket, looking to be homeowners, and happily married with children in the near future.

Race removed, God didn’t create “winners” or “losers” he created CHOOSERS. Nick and I both individually choose to build a relationship with one another and I am just grateful for that type of dedication from a partner.

That Night We Fell in Love with Each Other!

Shayne and I met one night in Downtown Savannah, we bumped into each other, literally! A “sorry excuse me” turned into all night conversation, and that all night conversation turned into us being inseparable since that night. About a week later we had a date at the beach, where we had deep conversations about love, and life.

That night we fell in love with each other! The first night we bumped into each other was June 25th! 😉 We got engaged 2 months later, and our wedding day is February 25th, 2017. 5 months after our engagement he was deployed.  He’s in army. He is set to come back, 10 days before the wedding. Even though we are apart, or love grows everyday! Color didn’t stop our love, and neither will distance!

We met June 25th, 2016, became an official couple on July 1st, and got engaged September 3rd.

Thanks
